FCCF Athlete: Chris B.

Much like the GHD or the Ski Erg, Chris B. is a staple at Fern Creek CrossFit. From his not-so-discrete “that’s what she said” jokes, to his own after hours hang out at Ducks Beahl, Chris is always ready to provide the entertainment.

Q&A with Chris

Q. What made you start CrossFit? How long have you been doing it for?

In the midst of a huge change in my life, I was trying many new things and I was HOOKED instantly. Started in 2011-2012ish.

Q. What is your favorite CrossFit exercise?

Cleans. ?

Q. What is your least favorite CrossFit exercise?

MAN-MAKERS!!!!!!!

Q. What is a goal you are working on at FCCF?

To build a better monster!  But at the same time, the sport and my community gives balance to all walks of my life.

Q. What is one thing CrossFit has changed about your life that you didn’t expect it to?

Wow! That is a tough one…….

My first knee jerk response would be humility, and I say this is the sense of “failing” is a part of the journey and a natural part of growing.  This is definitely true within CrossFit but it translates to life as well.

The friends I have made in the process has been more than I expected as well, and probably an even better surprise. The “gym”  was a task much like paying a bill, while MY CrossFit Box is a home, a family, and dare I say a place in my life that has value far exceeding how much I bench press.

Q. What do you do for a living? How long have you been doing it?

Saving the world one insurance policy at a time, many years prior to Odin defeating the Frost Giants. Translations: Insurance agent for 14 years.

Q. What story do your friends always tell about you?

Hmmmmmmm, I seem to be the one typically telling the story, so I guess they typically say, “Chris, tell them that story about…..”

Q. What is the worst haircut you’ve ever had? (Bonus points if you include a picture)

Product of the late 90s, so I would say the long hair pulled to a ponytail then shaved around the sides.  More Eddie Vedder in Evenflow, NOT man-bun. ?

Q. Who is someone you admire and why?

My dad is so many ways, but most importantly teaching me how to be good to people. Oh, I did know a guy once who fell asleep in a VIP room and nobody said NOTHING!!!!

Q. What’s your go to knock knock joke?

I am anti-violence. ?

Q. What was your first job?

Slang’n fish sandwiches at Moby Dick.

Q. You’re on a desert island for the rest of your life and there is a song stuck on replay. What is it?

Row, row, row your boat???? (kidding). Random DMB song.

Q. Where is the farthest you have ever traveled from Louisville?

To Hell and Back.

From the Coaches

Coach Trent on Chris:

Our gym was founded on three ideas; drive, positivity, and community. When people think of Chris, they see those three qualities in him. He comes into the gym daily with a smile on him face. He not only has the drive to better himself, but everyone around him. You cannot find someone that defines community more than Chris. He started as a fellow CrossFitter, but has evolved into one of my best friends.

Coach John on Chris:

It’s inspiring to watch someone come in the gym everyday and meticulously work through an injury or a weakness the right way. Chris shows tremendous discipline to the process it takes to get better and be healthier inside the gym. As a coach there’s not much more you could ask for from an athlete.
Not only that, his personality and sense of humor makes everyone relax and have a great time while sweating our butts off in a workout. He’s one of those guys that I just clicked with immediately when I met him. Felt like I knew him all my life.

Coach Brian on Chris:

I can’t say enough about Chris Beahl. Chris is the foundation of the FCCF community. I’ve had the pleasure of training Chris for over 4 years. Chris goes above and beyond when it comes to our community. He always makes it a point to say hi to everyone, especially new members! His dedication to health and wellness can not be measured. I look forward to watch Chris and Victoria grow into a power house CrossFit couple.

Chris, we couldn’t imagine FCCF without you. Thank you for being here. Thank you for making our gym home a fun place to be for all of those folks around you!
